The limited Copen Coupe may be Daihatsu’s main model at the Tokyo Motor Show, but this is not the only version of Copen for the event. The manufacturer presented two concepts based on Copen in Tokyo: GR Sport and Copen Cero Sports Premium. The first is the result of the collaboration between Daihatsu and Toyota Gazoo Racing – the roadster even carries the logotype of the grille and trunk lid.
Obviously, the fact that Daihatsu is wholly owned by Toyota makes this project possible, and Gazoo Racing did not ignore the project. In fact, this concept is a test for a future sports roadster. Given the latest Daihatsu information, we would not be surprised to see the Copen GR Sport debut as a production model of the Tokyo Motor Show next year.
Toyota Gazoo Racing has increased the rigidity of the roadster’s bodywork and has adjusted the chassis. Other modifications include the addition of 16-inch BBS gold rims, a large rear diffuser and a Functional Matrix grille with a copper-coated grille that we have seen in the JDM Toyota GR models, while the interior gets recaro seats and new dashboard design.
Unfortunately, there are no mechanical changes, with Kei-car Roadster having 64 hp from the 0.66-liter turbo 3-cylinder engine, like any other Copen.
As for the Cero Sports Premium, it is based on a retro version and uses a unique front grille of chrome, gray soft roof, and the same Recaro seats as the Copen GR Sport Concept.
