The German manufacturer BMW continues its model offensive in the luxury segment and presented the new 8-Series in the convertible version. The car comes with a choice of engine and comes with модерн driver assistance and connectivity, including BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant technology.
The dimensions of the automobile are length of 4383 mm, width of 1902 mm, height of 1339 mm and 2822 mm between axles. They are identical to those shown earlier this year’s coupe version of the model the convertible has borrowed and part of its design. The bodywork looks dynamically elongated, especially when the roof is open. The athletic presence is provided by the three-dimensional front bumper with large air intakes, which are standard in the BMW M850i xDrive, while the BMW 840d xDrive enters the optional M-Sport package.
The adaptive LED headlights are part of the standard equipment, and laser lights with variable illumination on the roadway are available at an additional cost. The system is called Selective Beam, with a range of about 600 m.
The roof of the BMW 8-Series Convertible is made of soft textile, with optimized weight and good sound insulation. In the closed state, it stretches over the interior and gives the car the characteristic stepped silhouette of the coupe. The textile roof in the serial version is black, but as an option it can be gray. It opens and closes for 15 seconds after pressing a button, at a speed of up to 50 km/h.
The interior of the new Bavarian model relies on dynamism, elegance and individual luxury. The car is equipped with a Walknappa leather dashboard and upholstery, and Vernasca leather upholstery and leather upholstery.
With the BMW M850i xDrive, the standard multi-function seats are combined with extended range Merino leather upholstery. Both the sports steering wheel of the BMW 840d xDrive and the M-leather steering wheel of the BMW M850i xDrive are equipped with multifunction buttons and switching levers.
The standard equipment of the new BMW 8-Series Convertible includes a windscreen that is mounted in the rear to prevent unwanted swirling of the air when driving under the open sky. As an option, a rear-end heating system is provided, whose air ducts are integrated into the headrests of the front seats. It also offers seat air conditioning, a thermal comfort package including heated steering wheel and a BMW Display key.
The car comes out with a option of two engines – gasoline V8 and 6-cylinder Diesel. The first of these – the 4.4-liter V8, is reinforced with a M-exhaust system with controlled valves. Its M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology includes two Twin-Scroll air coolers located in the space between the two rows of cylinders, direct injection of High Precision Injection, fully variable VALVETRONIC valve control and variable control of the VANOS camshafts.
Engine power is 530 hp and maximum torque is 750 Nm. This allows the BMW M850i xDrive to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds.
The BMW 840d xDrive version relies on the TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine with technology including cascade overfill and Common-Rail direct injection system with piezo injectors. The power of the unit is 320 hp and the maximum torque is 680 Nm. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 5.2 seconds.
Both engines meet the Euro 6d-TEMP emission standard. The units are combined with the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission and the four-wheel drive BMW xDrive. The gasoline version offers a M-Sport differential with electronic control.
The new BMW 8-Series Convertible is standardly equipped with tires of different sizes on the front and rear axles as well as adaptive M-suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers. An anti-tilt system is available as an option and is available for the BMW M850i xDrive version.
BMW 8-Series Convertible’s standard equipment includes a Head-Up display, a collision alert and pedestrian emergency brake assist pedestrian with a braking function in urban conditions, a change-over and out-of-band warning function, a Speed Limit Info system, a reverse side traffic warning and a strike warning at the back.
As an option, Active Speed Control is available with Stop & Go, Professional Driving Assist with cornering assistant and BMW Night Vision. The function of the serial parking assistant also includes a parking assistant, including a reverse movement assistant.
BMW has also taken care of the cabriolet with excellent connectivity, with the BMW Live Cockpit Professional system in series. It includes a navigation and multimedia system, as well as a fully digital high-definition dashboard with a diagonal of 12.3 inches behind the wheel and a 10.25-inch control display.
