Worldwide sales of compact cars in the first half of 2018 increased by 4% to 6.94 million, the focus2move analyst said. It takes into account model data with a length of 3.5 to 4.1 m.
The most popular compact model with a significant advance over the second is the Volkswagen Polo. Between January and June this year, sales grew by 8.3% to 375,590 units, with 74,153 (+ 10%) sold in June alone. As it is known, the model was uploaded to the production line in 1975, and over 12 million units have been produced.
Renault Clio ranked second with 226,041 vehicles sold, up 2.6% over the same period last year. The Ford Fiesta is third with approximately the same volume – 218,674, although the US model has a decline in sales of 5.2% compared to January-June 2017.
India’s Maruti Dzire showed the greatest positive dynamics – in June sales of the model increased by 103% and in the first six months of the year (9th) by 73.7% to 24 465 and 140 441 respectively.
The other models in the Top 10 for the period January-June are: 4. Toyota Yaris (198,234, + 5.6% compared to the same period in 2017), 5. Peugeot 208 (166,887, +1.9%), 6 Renault Captur (149,011, +12,8%), Honda Fit (148,204, -0,2%), Hyundai i20 (141,948, +0,4%) and Citroen C3 (136,328, -1.4%).
