Skoda Scala is the first model made by the new designer of the brand – Oliver Stefani. Scala is approaching the Vison RS concept model, using some new features, especially in headlamps and lights. This is the first European car of Scoda, where instead of the emblem on the back is the name of the model.
The length of the Scala is 4,362 mm, the height is 1,471 mm, while the distance between the two axles is 2,649 mm. These dimensions are positioning the hatchback in class C+. For comparison, the Volkswagen Golf is 4,258 mm long, 1,790 mm wide and the height and distance between the two axles to 1,492 and 2,620 mm respectively.
Skoda has determined that the saloon of the new model is almost as spacious as the Octavia, and in places – above the heads of the passengers, the distance is even greater. The volume of the trunk is 467 litres, with the rear seats down, it increases to 1,410 litres.
The touchscreen of the multimedia system impresses with three sizes – 6.5, 8.0 or 9.2 inches. The central deflectors are also replaced, similar to the new Polo. As an option, a two-zone air conditioner, a 10.25-inch virtual instrument panel, full LED optics, heated steering wheel and a panoramic roof are available.
Skoda Scala can also get a warm-up steering, adaptive cruise control, side airbags in the rear seats, auto braking system and parking assistants.
The hatchback is built on the MQB platform in the A0 version on which the Volkswagen Polo is based. This means semi-independent rear suspension and the front is McPherson. As an option, the sports suspension is available with a 15 mm track width and electrically driven shock absorbers.
The model will be available in 5 modifications, the base is based on a 1.0 TSI (95 hp) 3-cylinder turbocharger and a 5-speed manual gearbox. This engine is also available in version 1.0 TSI (115 hp). The most powerful gasoline engine is a 4-cylinder 1.5 TSI (150 hp). There is also diesel – 1.6 TDI, which has a power of 115 hp. For all engines (without the weakest), a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed robotic DSG is provided. Skoda Scala will also be available in some markets with the 1.0 G-Tec (90 hp) methane version and the 6-speed manual gearbox.
