Peugeot has left the World Rally Cross Championship (WRX) to take on the development of a new family of electrified sports cars. The first of them will be ready in 2020, with Peugeot Sport being part of the development.

“The pleasure of driving is at the heart of the history of the Peugeot brand,” said Jean-Philippe Imparato, chief of the brand. “Electrification will enable us to enhance these sensations and offer our customers low-emission sports cars.”

One of these cars will be the R-version of the Peugeot 508 Hybrid, whose output will exceed 300 hp. In this case the unit consists of a 1.6-liter turbocharger with 200 hp. and a 110 hp electric motor. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h will take 4.5 seconds.

In the new family will come the serial version of the concept 308 R Hybrid. The prototype was equipped with a 1.6-liter turbocharger with 270 hp. and two 115 hp electric motors. everyone. The aggregate power of this unit is 500 hp. and 730 Nm.

A flagship of the future range of Peugeot sports cars is likely to be the serial version of the concept e-LEGEND, which is equipped with a four-wheel drive system and an electric motor developing 462 hp. and 800 Nm. The prototype accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds, and only 600 km (under the new WLTP cycle) can be completed with just one charge.
