Mercedes-Benz expanded the European range of engines for the new generation of its GLE. So far, the model was available with only a 2.0-litre diesel (version 300 d) with 245 hp and a 3.0-litre gasoline turbocharger with 6 cylinders (version 450), with a power output of 367 hp.
Now, Mercedes adds 6-cylinder twin-turbo diesel unit with a capacity of 2.9 litres, already known by the Mercedes E-Class and CLS. With 350 d, this unit develops 272 hp and 600 Nm of torque available in the 1,200-3,200 rpm. The engine runs in conjunction with a four-wheel drive system and a 9-speed automatic transmission.
The top-of-the-line model – 400 d, will get the same engine, but with 330 hp and 700 Nm of torque available to the driver between 1200 and 3000 rpm. This modification accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds and the maximum speed is 240 km/h. With the Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 d, the acceleration takes 6.9 seconds and the maximum speed is 230 km/h.
In Germany, the crossover sales with the new engine start in the spring at a price of 69,500 EUR for the Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 d and 76,100 EUR for the Mercedes-Benz GLE 400 d.
