Mercedes-AMG prepares hybrid with 805 hp

Mercedes-AMG President Tobias Moers announced before the Digital Trends that by the end of 2018, the company will offer a model with a 805 hp hybrid power unit on the market. It debuted at the prototype Mercedes-AMG GT Concept, introduced in the spring of 2017.

At the core of the concept car is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. It works in combination with a rear-mounted electric motor and a set of very powerful but very lightweight batteries. Thanks to this, the Mercedes-AMG GT Concept accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in less than 3 seconds.

Detailed battery characteristics and mileage were not reported, but the company identified them as “impressive.” According to preliminary information, Mercedes engineers are planning to fully preserve the specifications of the concept engine in the production model.

The prototype itself, the Mercedes-AMG GT Concept, has already become the forerunner of the brand-new GT 4-Door Coupe. The four-door car received a hybrid unit, which includes a 6-cylinder turbocharged engine with 435 hp. and 520 Nm, a 9-speed automatic and an electric motor, delivering another 22 hp. and 250 Nm.
