BYD has officially unveiled the third generation of its Tang SUV. The premiere took place on August 21, 2026, at the Chengdu International Auto Show. The new model combines a large five-seat body with a new battery platform, air suspension and advanced driver-assistance technology.
Positioned as a large five-seat electric SUV within BYD’s Dynasty lineup, the new Tang measures 5,045 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width and has a 2,950 mm wheelbase. These dimensions place it firmly in the upper part of the midsize SUV segment.

Blade Battery and Ultra-Fast Charging
One of the main technological highlights is BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery. Depending on the version, the battery pack is expected to have a capacity of around 88.7 or 105.8 kWh. The claimed CLTC driving range reaches 730, 830 or as much as 850 km.
Even more striking is the charging performance. BYD says the battery can be charged from 10% to 70% in roughly five minutes under suitable conditions, while reaching about 97% may take approximately nine minutes. In cold weather, the charging process is expected to become only modestly longer.
Air Suspension and Intelligent Driving Systems
The third-generation Tang also introduces BYD’s DiSus-A body-control technology. The system combines two-chamber air suspension with road-surface sensing, allowing the chassis to adapt its characteristics to changing road conditions. The goal is to improve both ride comfort and stability.
Another important feature is the God’s Eye B driver-assistance suite, which includes lidar and supports navigation-assisted driving on urban and highway roads, as well as automated parking functions.
Why the New Tang Matters for BYD
The launch comes at an important moment for the Tang family. Sales of the model had weakened in China, increasing pressure on BYD to refresh the lineup with more advanced products. The company is now positioning the third-generation Tang alongside the larger seven-seat Da Tang as part of its strategy to strengthen its flagship SUV range.

A Figure to Treat With Caution
The headline figure of 850 km should be viewed in context. It is a result measured under China’s CLTC test cycle, which generally produces more optimistic range figures than real-world driving. Actual range will depend on speed, temperature, traffic, terrain, wheel configuration and use of climate control.
Nevertheless, the third-generation BYD Tang represents a significant technological step for the brand. A large electric SUV combining a long claimed range, very rapid charging, air suspension and lidar-based driver assistance could become one of BYD’s most competitive offerings in the upper SUV segment.
Sales in China are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026. BYD is expected to reveal final pricing and detailed trim levels closer to the market launch.
