For more than 25 years, the BMW Individual Manufaktur has been offering remarkable solutions for the brand’s new vehicles, as well as special models and breathtaking unusual features. All of them are in impeccable design and are enriched with the finest and most valuable materials. Another such car is the BMW M850i xDrive Night Sky.

The machine was not accidentally introduced on the night of 3rd to 4th January 2019 – then astronomers expect extremely intense meteor shower. With this car, experts from BMW Individual Manufaktur go beyond the globe and bring the starry sky into the car, revealing a new dimension of exclusivity.

The processing of materials literally from another world creates as much innovative and unique aesthetics as it once again displaces the limits of the possible design of the interior of a car. The meteorite stone material is mounted along the entire decorative aperture of the center console, the Start / Stop button of the V8 engine, the 8-speed Steptronic transmission, and the iDrive touch controller. The stripes on the thresholds, except with the illuminated designation of the model, are decorated with inlays of meteorite material. The BMW Individual M850i xDrive Coupe Night Sky is now a symbol of luxury and top-class exclusivity.

In addition to the integration of meteorite material on control devices, the layout of multiple elements in the interior and exterior of the sports car is oriented towards a natural look that is found on extraterrestrial objects. The components chosen for this are the meteorite structure. Strictly geometric, straight-line and ice-resembling crystals appear when certain ice meteors are ground or acid-treated. This structure is the result of the extremely slow process of cooling metal alloys that can not be reproduced on Earth and is, therefore, a unique sign of extraterrestrial materials.

Unique solutions are also visible on the hand-painted ceiling as well as on the decorative surfaces of the middle console. The exterior mirror housings, the front side air intakes front divider, the middle grille and the Air Breather frame on the front side panels also feature the meteorite-like structure. These exterior components, developed specifically for this car, are made unique by 3D-printing technology.

The innovative production process is also used in the manufacture of braking devices, allowing the design to be lightened. The biannual aluminum braking systems developed by BMW Motorsport are up to 30% less compared to the conventional components.

The comprehensive reduction of the underrunning mass results in tangible optimization of driving dynamics and ride comfort. For the development and production of the innovative bionic braking systems, the BMW Group has enjoyed both its motorsport experience and its expertise in using the 3D-printing method for aluminum components. With this braking concept, it was possible to lower the weight to the minimum required for the technical requirements.

All this means that only the material needed for driving is used. Thus, a form that resembles the structure of the bones with an optimum ratio of strength to weight, which can not be achieved by a conventional casting method, is created, but only by an additive manufacturing process. Furthermore, in this way it is possible for the brake fluid channels to be integrated directly into the structure of the braking devices. This integral construction, which can also be achieved only by additive production, creates additional advantages for the installation and strength of the lightweight braking system.

Another innovation in interior design is the BMW Individual Merino leather trim and the color combination. Another accent, inspired by the celestial hardness, puts the layout of the armrests on the middle console. An illuminated by LED source surface reproduces a starry sky image and provides an exceptionally pleasant atmosphere in the interior of a luxury sports car. The long-sleeved, Night Blue color mats complement the stylish ambiance in the interior.

The varnish of the BMW Individual M850i xDrive Coupe Night Sky also contributes to its exciting exposure. The special coating achieves its expressive impact due to the combination of two colors. The main color of the exterior is black non-metallic. San Marino Blue metallic has been selected as the second color layer, which has a fading effect from the lower body to the height of the wheel arches. The subsequent application of three layers of transparent varnish with three sizes of pigment particles ensures a particularly intense sense of depth.

At the heart of the unique BMW Individual Manufaktur is the new BMW M850i xDrive Night Sky. It relies on a 4.4-liter V8 engine with 530 hp, with a racetrack mounted suspension and the company’s four-wheel drive system BMW xDrive.
