BMW has officially brought the facelifted i7 G70 LCI to the market, with the latest launch taking place in September 2026. The updated electric flagship is more than a styling refresh: BMW has revised its electric drivetrain, increased the driving range, introduced a new-generation digital interface and brought the design of the cabin closer to the technology direction established by the Neue Klasse.

A new chapter for the BMW i7

The BMW i7 G70 LCI keeps the long-wheelbase proportions and executive character of the existing 7 Series, but almost every visible area has been reworked. At the front, the illuminated BMW Iconic Glow kidney grille is combined with slimmer two-section headlights and a redesigned bumper. Optional BMW Individual Crystal Headlights add crystal elements to the lighting signature, while the rear receives narrower taillights and a cleaner bumper design.

The changes are deliberately evolutionary. BMW has not attempted to turn the i7 into a completely different car. Instead, the facelift gives the flagship a sharper identity and brings it visually closer to the company’s newest electric models.

The biggest improvement is underneath

The updated i7 receives new battery technology and a substantially improved electric drivetrain. In the Indian-market i7 50 xDrive M Sport, the 112.5 kWh battery enables a claimed WLTP range of up to 728 km, an increase of 125 km over the outgoing model.

The i7 50 xDrive produces 455 hp and 660 Nm and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds. At the top of the range sits the i7 M70 xDrive, developing 680 hp and up to 1,100 Nm with Launch Control or Sport Boost. It can reach 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and offers up to 686 km of WLTP range.

Model Power Torque 0–100 km/h WLTP range
i7 50 xDrive M Sport 455 hp 660 Nm 5.5 s Up to 728 km
i7 M70 xDrive 680 hp 1,015–1,100 Nm 3.8 s Up to 686 km

250 kW charging changes the long-distance equation

Range is only part of the story. BMW has also increased the maximum DC charging power to 250 kW. The new i7 can charge from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 28 minutes, while a short stop at a high-power charger can add a substantial amount of usable range. BMW’s current technical data also lists up to 252 km of additional range after ten minutes of high-power charging, depending on the version and conditions.

This is an important change for a car designed to cover long distances in comfort. The i7 remains a large and heavy luxury sedan, but faster charging reduces one of the traditional disadvantages of using an electric flagship as a high-mileage executive car.

The cabin gets the Neue Klasse treatment

The most significant transformation takes place inside. The new BMW Panoramic iDrive stretches information across the lower part of the windscreen, while BMW Operating System X provides the software foundation for the redesigned interface. A 17.9-inch central display is joined by a new 14.6-inch passenger screen, giving the dashboard a much more digital appearance than before.

BMW has also retained one of the i7’s signature features for rear passengers: the 31.3-inch Theatre Screen. The display now supports 8K content, reinforcing the idea that the i7 is designed as much around the rear-seat experience as it is around the driver.

“Progressive luxury meets Neue Klasse excellence” is how BMW describes the philosophy behind the updated 7 Series.

September launch brings a new i7 to customers

BMW India officially launched the updated 7 Series and i7 on September 11, 2026. The facelifted i7 50 xDrive M Sport is priced at INR 1.95 crore ex-showroom, while the i7 M70 xDrive costs INR 2.65 crore. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in October.

The Indian launch is also significant from a production perspective. BMW says India is now only the second country after Germany to locally produce the i7, with the updated i7 50 xDrive being assembled at BMW Group Plant Chennai. The range-topping M70 xDrive continues to arrive as a completely built-up vehicle.

BMW i7 G70 LCI: key facts

  • Facelifted G70 generation launched on the market in 2026
  • New exterior design with illuminated Iconic Glow grille
  • BMW Panoramic iDrive and BMW Operating System X
  • 17.9-inch central display and 14.6-inch passenger screen

The BMW i7 G70 LCI is therefore a considerably more important update than the word “facelift” might suggest. BMW has used the 2026 revision to improve the electric hardware, extend range and charging capability, and fundamentally update the way occupants interact with the car. The result is still the same large luxury sedan at its core, but its technology now points clearly toward BMW’s next generation of electric vehicles.
